Papillons are known for being “the friendliest of all dogs” and were one of the most popular pets in America during the first half of the twentieth century, with an estimated ten million belonging to American families by 1957. In fact, they’ve been so beloved that their appearance has been featured on stamps from Colombia to Switzerland, and from Puerto Rico to Guam. Their name even appeared in a 1960s hit song,“Wipe Out!(抹掉)”, where they were immortalized as “a dog with short hair and long legs who likes to run and jump...with a smiling face you can trust.”
Confident, intelligent hunters of small game whose keen senses enable them to be skilled at tracking and observing. Papillons are very good watchdogs, but because of their affectionate nature, also make great family companions.
The energy released while playing is expended primarily through exercise, so Papillons need lots of running and jumping, which will not only keep them healthy physically but emotionally as well. As happy as they usually are to play, sometimes they may seem frustrated if denied access to people or toys. Papillons are generally healthy, but like all breeds, some common health problems do exist. Talk with your veterinarian about what preventive health care is needed based on your individual pet's needs.
